A PLACE TO BE
Is there a place where we can go where dreams begin?
A Place To Be was a positive protest performance that we created with our community in Harlow. Taking place on the site of Harlow’s future Arts and Cultural Quarter, the show was a manifesto for the community’s dreams for Harlow as a cultural centre and a place where we all belong.
We took inspiration from the statues around Harlow to create a dance piece celebrating Harlow’s cultural history and looking forward to the future. The piece was created through a series of workshops with local participants held at Harlow Playhouse, and included dance, live video relay, and positive affirmations of hope and community. The show was the grand finale of the Care Weekender, rounding off each day by getting the whole crowd thinking, dreaming, and up on their feet dancing together.
“A Place To Be was amazing, and it was choreographed beautifully. It had quite an impact, to watch the dance and listen to what was being said about staying connected within the community.”
“Thank you, your performance touched my heart.”
